Why a Single Status Apostille Matters for Your Destination Wedding

May 1, 2019 By Atlanta Apostille

Are you planning on getting married in another country? If this country is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, you will be asked to obtain documentation stating that you are currently not married, and to apostille said document.

There are three ways to obtain this kind of documentation depending on where you currently reside:

  1. Contact your local County Clerk’s office and request what may be referred to as a Single Status document, or a “No Record of Marriage” document. All County Clerk offices should be able to provide a Single Status document, since it does not require notarization.
  2. If you are in the United States, we would be happy to assist you by preparing a Single Status affidavit. We would write, sign, and notarize a sworn statement that shows that you currently are not married to anyone residing within the United States.
  3. If you are currently outside of the United States, reach out to your local U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate office. They can assist you in the process of acquiring a Single Status document, as well as having it signed, notarized, and then processed by our Washington D.C. apostille office.

For any assistance in preparing a Single Status affidavit for those residing in the United States, our staff is available to answer all of your questions and provide you with step-by-step assistance. We are available Monday to Sunday, from 8AM to 11pm EST. Do not hesitate to call us at 404-323-4211, or e-mail [email protected].
